Open (body) Space – Fall 2008
September 18 – Anne Pitman – Autumn Celebration
Welcoming. Opening and holding space. Tonight we create the container for our fall practice. Through music and an exploration of our body-story in every moment, we’ll celebrate the beginnings of fall and the rhythm within.
September 25 – Naomi Sparrow – Body Mind Centering
“The mind is like the wind and the body like the sand. If you want to know how the wind is blowing, you can look at the sand” -Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen
Body and Mind dance around each other, each has the capacity to transform the other. Where you put your attention is a potent leader of your experience. This class will be a gentle introduction to the world of experiential anatomy, and the multitude of emotion, images and sensations that arise from within.
October 2 – Christine Graves – Feldenkrais
Awareness Through Movement (R) is an introspective learning
opportunity for the nervous system through movement. A brilliant
sequence of muscle and skeleton explorations and ideal conditions for motor learning paired with your attention can lay down new motor pathways in just one session! Tap into your innate capacity for learning in this pleasant movement lesson.
October 9 – Alejandro DeMaio – Sensory Awareness
How can we establish a deeper connection with the “animal” in ourselves through a fuller sensory experience? How can opening to sensory information facilitate awareness of ourselves and the world around us?
October 16 – Kathy Armstrong and Rory Magill – Takai Spiral Dance
Explore the circular rhythm and movement of Takai, a music and dance form from Northern Ghana. From the rhythmic clicks of the Takai rods to the swirling of the dervish-like smocks, this music and dance has a hypnotic effect.
October 23 – Jude Kerridge – Authentic Movement
Open the space, hold the space, allow yourself the luxury of moving exactly how you want to move, without judgement. Let the body move as it will and process the feelings that emerge.
October 30 – Marlene and Bob Neufeld – Bodymind Vibrance
An evening of whole-body, whole-brain learning to accelerate transformation in a friendly way. Explore how to use breath, movement and body-awareness to hasten problem-resolution. Learn to renew you own vitality while being of service at home or work, with family and friends. Get in touch with emotions in a body centered friendly way, and practice tools to shift emotional states.
November 6 – Naomi Sparrow - Voice and Movement Improvisation
Explore sounding and moving freely. The voice can resonate in many ways: the heart, the bones, tones and shapes fly free in the space. Sounding in relationship forms harmony, as we practice moving, listening, and allowing the voice of the moment to emerge. (this is not a singing class!) No vocal experience necessary!! Silence also welcome.

November 20 – Elizabeth MacKinnon - Moving With The Senses
This class will focus on the use of perceptions and
sensations to bring new awareness to body movement and
expression. It aims to uncover and encourage a fullness of embodiment by connecting internal experience with external surroundings
November 27 – Alexis Andrew – Contact Improv
Explore the body’s innate capacity for movement, the rush of kinetic freedom and the beauty of stillness. Breath, gravity and momentum will bring us into our own dance and maybe into contact with another person.
December 4 – TBA
December 11 – Anne Pitman – Wintersleep
The time has come to spiral inward and know the stillness potential of winter in us. Holding this and the bone-knowing of SunReturn in the depth of our darkness, we turn towards the light. Dance, move or sleep to celebrate the turn of the wheel.
